Cabin in the Jungle

http://www.homedesignfind.com/art-home-decor/a-balinese-home-draws-on-a-tourist-industry-success/

A wonderful use of wood and natural stone in a Bali-local inspired home for an American couple working in Indonesia. The lines, material and layout are modern to reflect the couples expectations of what a home should be in America (check out those counter tops and the open layout), but rustic and local enough to suggest they really are in the jungle (like the dinning table supported by bamboo boxes). Pops of green and a pond surrounding the house complete the tropical feel.

Swift Lee Architects- Net Zero School

Swift Lee Architects out of LA designed a net zero school for up to 500 students. Construction began in January and the first prototype school should be completed by the end of the year thanks to their utilization of an interchangeable and customizable prefab system.

Insulation skin system to control the interior climate and light. The exterior skin can have a custom design.

The prototype uses a system of sky lights, glass louvers, and reflecting panels to light the entire school, with out the need for traditional lights.
There are 5 variations specifically design to accommodate different scenarios.
A: Multipurpose room with food service
B: K-5 school
C: Community Center

LED Light Emitting Wall Paper

LED lights embedded into wall paper can be illuminated by small solar panels, or two AA batteries. Solar panels will keep the wall paper running for 10 years, the batteries for several months. The light is said to be more like natural sunlight, and less  like traditional indoor lighting. CAN I GET A BEACH SCENE????

Acid Modernism

"A man who makes films about people who never stop moving would seem unlikely to set down roots. Yet the artist Doug Aitken has built himself a house in Venice, Calif., that is too much fun to leave — even to go to the nearby studio where he created “Black Mirror,” his film project with Chloë Sevigny as a nomad who spends her days checking into and out of anonymous motels."
